Have the Need to Share...
something beyond the game, which is all anyone can talk about. The game was great, the frosting on a great saturday, but doesnt anyone have any gameday anecdotes?
Here's mine...
We always have a tailgate at my friends house but this year, my brother decided to have something on the golf course. First time he's done something like that in 25 years. He's not that enthusiastic anyway, so this is way beyond the call of duty.
Drinking is plentiful at my friends house. Vodka, on the rocks, lemon and lime.
Time to fufil the family obligation and go to the brohams tailgate. We arrive expecting to continue our libations but alas, he is lame-o and has forgotten the drinks in a car miles away.
No prob...23 yo daughter, recent grad of wisky has driven up from her job at purdue...to the rescue. With 40 smackers of dads in hand, she sets off to find the clear. 10 minutes later...supported by the " my grandfather is attending his 40th opening day game and all he wants is a shot of vodka" she returns to the fold, ginormous glass of stoli filled to the brim.
We drink. We laugh. We realize we have more cash to send kids off on a scavenger hunt. The 6 year old and 11 year old friends kid are offered 5 dollars to find a frisbee. My little son is all about the adventure and runs off. We lose the 11 year old
. I panic. We lose most of our drink buzz. We circle back to the tailgate, where of course, Alex is joyfully holding up a red frisbee. We are relieved, but also out of vodka.
The 23 yo declines our repeat offer.
Thats okay as I have hidden the rest of the vodka for myself.
Hey...it was game day, right?
